Haldwani: (Manoj Rautela) On Monday, paramedical students—considered the backbone of the healthcare system—met local MP Ajay Bhatt to demand a fair stipend during their internships. A delegation of students submitted a formal memorandum to the MP, apprising him of their grievances and financial challenges.
During the meeting, the students explained that paramedical students (pursuing courses like BMLT, BMRITT, BOTT, etc.) work shoulder-to-shoulder with doctors and senior health professionals in hospitals, providing emergency and routine services day and night. Despite this, they receive zero stipend during their internship period, making it extremely difficult for them to cover daily expenses and the costs associated with their studies. The student representatives demanded that the government immediately implement a policy ensuring a respectable and fixed stipend for paramedical students, just as it does for other medical interns. MP Ajay Bhatt listened to the students’ concerns seriously and offered a positive assurance. He stated that the contribution of paramedical personnel to the health sector is invaluable and promised to strongly raise this issue with the concerned ministry and competent authorities so that an appropriate decision could be taken quickly in the students’ interest. Key members of the student delegation, including Dhanesh Upadhyay, Bhaskar Sati, Kajal, Priyanka, Shubham Pratap, Shubham Giri, and Tanuj, were present on the occasion.
