  • “The three Election Commissioners are not commissioners, but accused persons”: Lalit Joshi

Haldwani: Congress MLA from Haldwani, Sumit Hridayesh, and Congress leader Lalit Joshi held a joint press conference on Wednesday. During the event, they raised questions regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the electoral rolls and alleged vote theft. The Congress leaders announced that the party would launch a “Save Vote, Save Country” mass movement against this. Speaking at the press conference in Haldwani, MLA Sumit Hridayesh went so far as to say that he considers Rahul Gandhi an astrologer, as everything Gandhi has predicted so far has proven true. He termed vote theft in a democracy as unfortunate and alleged that the mastermind behind it is CEC Gyanesh Kumar.

At the press conference, the Congress leaders objected to the entire SIR process and questioned the role of the Election Commission. They alleged that instead of acting impartially, the Election Commission is working in favor of the BJP. The leaders emphasized that transparency regarding the election process and electoral rolls is crucial in a democratic system. Congress leader Lalit Joshi also raised the issue of the municipal corporation election vote counting, alleging major irregularities. Joshi claimed that he was made to lose an election he had actually won due to tampering during the vote count. Questioning the functioning of the Chief Election Commissioner, he alleged that the official was acting like a BJP worker and labeled the three Election Commissioners as “accused persons” rather than commissioners. MLA Sumit Hridayesh and Lalit Joshi stated that the rights of eligible voters must be safeguarded during any changes made to the electoral rolls. Congress leaders stated that the party would take the issue of the SIR to the public and launch a mass movement to protect democratic rights.
