Dehradun: As part of the ongoing campaign to maintain the integrity of recruitment and academic examinations in Uttarakhand, the Dehradun police have taken significant action against the cheating mafia. They arrested Ashish Kumar Gupta, an Assistant Professor at Shivalik College of Engineering, Jhajhra, for leaking the question paper for the Uttarakhand Technical University (UTU) semester examination.

According to the case registered at the Premnagar police station based on a complaint by Controller of Examinations Dr. Vinay Kumar Patel, the accused Assistant Professor shared important exam-related questions with students via a WhatsApp group prior to the UTU even-semester examination held on July 8. Upon comparing the actual question paper with the shared questions after the exam, significant similarities were found. The university’s internal inquiry committee also confirmed that identical questions had been circulated among students via WhatsApp groups and other channels before the exam. Recognizing the gravity of the matter, the police—acting swiftly on the instructions of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dehradun—gathered evidence and arrested the accused Assistant Professor. Electronic devices recovered in connection with the case are being examined, and investigations are underway regarding the roles of other individuals linked to this network.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stated that the Uttarakhand government is operating under a ‘zero-tolerance’ policy against those who jeopardize the future of the youth. He asserted that whether it involves recruitment exams or university examinations, no one involved in cheating, paper leaks, or compromising the confidentiality of the examination system will be spared.

The Chief Minister noted that, as a result of the state’s strict anti-cheating laws and continuous enforcement actions, over 100 members of the cheating mafia and their accomplices have been arrested across various cases so far. He stated that the state government aims to provide a fair and transparent examination system for the hardworking and talented youth of the state, and the campaign in this direction will continue with full rigor.
