After FBI input Suspended Punjab Police SHO Gurinderjit Singh Nagra Arrested

Jalandhar: Former Punjab Police SHO Inspector Gurinderjit Singh Nagra, who had come under the radar of the US investigative agency FBI, was arrested late Friday night. Following his arrest, he was brought to Jalandhar under tight security. Investigations revealed that Gurinderjit Singh Nagra was part of the international network run by Lawrence Bishnoi and Jaggu Bhagwanpuria. The gang targeted wealthy Punjabi NRI families settled in countries like the US and Canada. According to reports, the gang would first identify families living abroad and then threaten to implicate them in murder cases or other serious charges in India. Terrified, the families would be forced to pay up. The most significant case involves a family in Los Angeles, USA; while posted in Hoshiarpur, Nagra threatened to frame a local Punjabi family in a false case and extorted $400,000 (approximately ₹4 crore) from them. Panic ensued within the Punjab Police as soon as the input from the foreign agency was received. Taking immediate action, DIG Navin Singla removed Gurinderjit Singh Nagra from his post as SHO and transferred him to the Police Lines. The investigation into the matter was entrusted to Superintendent of Police (SP) Vineet Ahlawat. Nagra was arrested on Friday night after the allegations were substantiated in the SP’s report.
