Alka Lamba’s political journey started in 1994. He got the post of convener in NSUI, the student organization of Congress. After this, in 1997, Alka Lamba became the President of NSUI. In 2002, Congress made her the General Secretary of Indian Mahila Congress.

Alka Lamba also joined Aam Aadmi Party in between and became MLA from Chandni Chowk. Alka contested the 2003 elections against BJP leader Madan Lal Khurana. However, he had to face defeat. She distanced herself from Congress in 2014 and joined Aam Aadmi Party. She contested the 2015 assembly elections from Chandni Chowk on AAP ticket and won.After this, she resigned from Aam Aadmi Party in 2019 and again joined Congress. She contested the elections from Chandni on Congress ticket in 2020, but this time she faced defeat. Congress has given a big responsibility to Alka Lamba. The party has appointed her the president of Mahila Congress. Apart from this, Congress has also declared the President of NSUI. Varun Chaudhary has been made the president of NSUI. Varun will replace the current president of NSUI, Neeraj Kundan.Let us tell you that recently Rahul Gandhi had interviewed 5 student leaders for the post of National President of NSUI.
