  • Bangladeshi National Arrested by Pauri Police for Residing Illegally Under a False Name and Using a Fake Aadhaar Card

Rishikesh: The incident falls under the jurisdiction of the Laxman Jhula Police Station. Under “Operation Prahar”—a special campaign spearheaded by the Uttarakhand Police Headquarters—the Pauri District Police, under the able leadership of the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Pauri, has been conducting extensive verification, checking, and continuous, effective operations against suspicious individuals across the district. The primary objective of this campaign is to identify individuals residing illegally in the district, holders of fake documents, those involved in suspicious activities, and elements that threaten law and order, in order to take strict action against them.

In furtherance of this initiative, on April 16, 2026, the Laxman Jhula Police Station and the Intelligence Unit jointly conducted an intensive verification and checking drive in the Ram Jhula area. During this operation, while verifying and checking individuals in the vicinity, a suspicious person was stopped and subjected to questioning. When the information provided by the individual during the initial inquiry appeared contradictory and suspicious, he was subjected to a rigorous interrogation. Upon intensive questioning, the individual revealed his true identity as Saniur Rahman—alias “Satyasadhu”—aged 39, a resident of Baisadi, Madhukhali, Faridpur (Bangladesh). The investigation revealed that he had been residing illegally in India since 2016 without a valid visa. To conceal his true identity, he had also procured an Indian Aadhaar card under the name “Satyanishth Arya.” The police team conducted a thorough scrutiny of the individual’s documents and gathered further information. During the investigation, items recovered from the accused’s possession included a Bangladeshi passport (which had expired in 2018), an Aadhaar card issued with an Indian address, a mobile phone, a tablet, and other effects. Interrogation also revealed that the accused had arrived in Laxman Jhula for tourism just one day prior, having previously resided in Bengal, Delhi, Ghaziabad, and other locations. Given the grave offenses committed by the accused—namely, creating forged documents to reside illegally in India and living under a concealed identity—the police arrested the individual at the scene. A case has been registered against the accused at the Laxman Jhula Police Station (Case No. 11/2026) under Sections 318(4)/319(2)/338/336(3)/340(2) of the BNS, and Sections 3/21 of The Immigration and Foreigners Act, 2025. The police, along with other investigative agencies, are conducting an in-depth inquiry to gather further details regarding the accused. The arrested individual is being produced before the Honorable Court for necessary legal proceedings.
