Tripura: BJP’s massive victory in civic elections, Mamta’s party won only 1 seat

Agartala : BJP’s bumper victory, from Prime Minister to party president JP Naddha, everyone is happy, while Mamata Banerjee’s party has got only one seat. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has cleared the opposition in the Tripura civic polls. In the elections held in 14 urban bodies, including the Agartala Municipal Corporation, the BJP captured 329 out of a total of 334 wards. In Agatla, BJP has won all 51 seats. Voting was held on November 25 for 222 out of the total 334 seats, in which 81.54 per cent voters exercised their franchise. The BJP won 217 seats out of a total of 222, while its candidates were elected unopposed on 112. Massive Victory shows how BJP has managed the booth in the elections also.

While the BJP is giddy with the results of the civic polls, the Trinamool Congress, which won just one seat, is not less happy. After the assembly elections in West Bengal, under ‘Mission Delhi’, Mamata Banerjee’s party had first announced expansion in Tripura itself. TMC may have got only one seat, but in terms of vote share, it has overtaken the Left to take the second position. TMC, which achieved the status of main opposition by overtaking the CPI(M) in several wards of Tripura municipal bodies, described its performance as extraordinary. The party is seeing this as its success before the 2023 assembly elections.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee said on Twitter that it was “extraordinary” to secure 20 per cent votes for his party, which had negligible presence in Tripura. He tweeted, “We started our activities barely 3 months back, yet we have got this response while BJP leaves no stone unturned to tear apart democracy in Tripura. Earlier, Trinamool Congress’s West Bengal general secretary and spokesperson Kunal Ghosh claimed that his party reached Tripura only two months back to finish second in several seats. has succeeded in. He said this is the situation when “there was violence by the ruling BJP”.

Amid the results of various municipal bodies in Tripura, Ghosh tweeted, “2023 is ours. These (results) will form the basis of Trinamool Congress’s victory in the year 2023.” He claimed that the Trinamool Congress has been successful in getting the support of various sections. Accusing the BJP of setting up a municipal board by registering victory with the help of violence and provocation, the TMC leader claimed that the police and the Tripura State Election Commission were also favoring the saffron party. He thanked the party workers for their efforts and the support of the people of Tripura.

Earlier in the day, BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh told reporters that the saffron party shares a “deep relationship” with the residents of the state. He claimed that the Trinamool Congress will be able to open an account in Tripura only if the BJP decides not to field a candidate from any seat. The BJP leader said, “The results of the civic polls are as per the expectations. There is no possibility of Trinamool Congress opening its account in Tripura and it is only making noise.” Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari extended best wishes to BJP workers, leaders and Tripura.
