Expressing grief over the incident, Union Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted, “Saddened by the unfortunate incident at Mon Ke Oting in Nagaland. I express my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. A high-level SIT team constituted by the state government will investigate the incident. So that justice can be done to the bereaved families.”
At the same time, the Ministry of Defense issued a statement on the incident, saying that a soldier has also died. According to the statement, “Based on strong intelligence received about the armed insurgents, the operation was carried out by the security forces in Tiru area of Mon district. The situation after the incident is quite regrettable. The unfortunate deaths of people are being investigated at the highest level and appropriate action will be taken as per law. One soldier injured in the incident died.
