Punjab: Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota removed from the post of DGP, Siddharth Chattopadhyay appointed as the new DGP. State Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu has once again come down heavily on CM Charanjit Singh Channi amidst internal strife between Congress leaders in Punjab. Accepting Sidhu’s demand, the Punjab government has removed Iqbal Preet from the post of DGP. Along with this, the Punjab government has decided to make Siddharth Chattopadhyay the new DGP.

Siddharth Chattopadhyay is said to be the choice of Navjot Singh Sidhu. On the other hand, Sahota was supported by Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi and Home Minister Sukhjinder Randhawa. Earlier, a panel of nine officers from the Union Public Service Commission was sent to shortlist the names for the post of DGP. Let us inform that since the appointment of Iqbal Preet, Navjot Singh Sidhu has taken over his own party’s government in Punjab. The attacks intensified. Not only this, Sidhu even resigned from his post against the appointments of Charanjit Singh Channi government.

The Congress high command, however, did not accept Navjot Singh Sidhu’s resignation and an attempt was made to reconcile with him. Navjot Singh Sidhu withdrew his resignation at the end of October after getting assurances from the Congress high command and started working in the party office. Earlier, he had put a condition that he would take charge again on the day a new Advocate General would be appointed and a panel would come from UPSC to appoint a new Director General of Police.
