Punjab : IPS Viresh Kumar Bhavra became the new DGP of Punjab, third DGP in the state in 3 months

Punjab : Punjab has had to meet three DGPs in the last three months. Veeresh Kumar Bhavra, a senior Indian Police Service officer, has been appointed as the new Director General of Police, Punjab Police.
This information was given in a government order on Saturday. The order came hours before the announcement of the dates for the assembly elections in five states, including Punjab. Bhavra, who was the DGP of Punjab Home Guards, has replaced DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay. Chattopodhyay along with 13 other police and administrative officers appeared before a three-member committee constituted by the Union Home Ministry in Ferozepur on Friday. The committee is probing a “serious lapse” in security during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ferozepur. The government led by Charanjit Singh Channi selected the 1987 batch IPS officer from a list of three officers given by the Union Public Service Commission.
“After considering the list sent by UPSC, the Governor of Punjab has appointed IPS Viresh Kumar Bhavra as Director General of Police (Head of Police Force) Punjab,” the order said. The order said that Bhavra’s tenure would be a minimum of two years.
