Dehradun: Senior BJP leader and 8-time MLA Harbans Kapoor dies, he was MLA from Cantt seat

Dehradun: Senior BJP leader and eight-time MLA and former Speaker of the Assembly Harbans Kapoor passed away suddenly. Heart attack is said to be the cause of death.
He was completely healthy and was active in all the party meetings and other activities. On Sunday also he participated in various meetings. In the night, after having dinner, he slept at his Indra Nagar residence. When he was picked up in the morning to have tea, he did not get up. He was just 75 years old. There is also a wave of mourning among the people of the area including the BJP due to his death. Kapoor’s name was also one of the people whose name was discussed in the race for Chief Minister during the time of Trivendra Singh Rawat. Kaafi Kapoor was considered a strong leader in the BJP state.
CM Pushkar Singh Dami also paid his homage and went to kapoor residence in the morning.
Former Chief Minister Harish Rawat, Congress State President Gandesh Godiyal also visited at Kapoor’s residence and paid tribute/homage. Born on January 7, 1946, Harbans Kapoor has been an accomplished politician.
He was a senior leader of Bharatiya Janata Party and MLA from Cantt assembly seat. He is the dominant force in the cantonment area. He occupied this seat for eight consecutive times. With this, his hold among the public can also be gauged. Harbans Kapoor has also been the Speaker of Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly from 2007 to 2012. He got his first defeat in 1985, but since then he never lost the assembly elections and became MLA for eight consecutive times.
