Dehradun: Devasthanam board issue is becoming bitter issue for the state government. All India Akhara Parishad’s ultimatum to the government on Devasthanam board, if not canceled in a week, the movement will go on in aggressive mode.

Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri (Mahanirvani), president of a faction of Akhil Bharatiya Akhara Parishad, said that Akhara Parishad will protest during the assembly session in Gairsain along with saints demanding the dissolution of the Devasthanam Board. Before that, the Akhara Parishad will submit a written memorandum to the Chief Minister and will also meet the priests affected by the formation of the board.

Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri said that many MLAs of the ruling party are also against the formation of the board. A memorandum will also be submitted to the Speaker of the Assembly. He said that the government is being given time till November 30 to dissolve the Devasthanam Board. During this period, if the government does not take positive initiative on their demand, then the saints will be forced to agitate.

Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri said that during the Kumbh, the Sadhu Samaj had told the then BJP Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to dissolve the Devasthanam Board and give them to the Brahmins. But the BJP government did not give any thought to this demand. Ravindrapuri said that the Sadhu Samaj demands from the state government that by November 30, the government should dissolve the Devasthanam Board.

He said that for this he would again meet the Chief Minister of the state and submit a demand letter. Shri Mahant Ravindrapuri said that the government should refrain from interfering in the centuries-old arrangements of monasteries and temples. According to the traditions, the monasteries and temples are run by the saints and priests for the benefit of the society. He said that this demand was raised prominently by the Sant Samaj in a sit-in organized by the All India Sant Samiti in Delhi on Sunday in protest against the acquisition of monasteries and temples and it was decided that in this regard the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Governors of the respective states and A memorandum will be sent to the Chief Minister.

Shri Mahant Ravindrapuri said that the government has been asked to take a concrete decision by December 25 to free all such Math temples from the acquisition of all the Math temples in all the states of the country. He said that if the government does not do this, then the sadhu society will be forced to make a big movement on this subject.

Shri Mahant Ravindra Puri said that the way the Prime Minister has taken a commendable decision by announcing the repeal of all three agriculture laws. Similarly, the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand should announce the repeal of the Devasthanam Board by bringing a bill in the upcoming session of the Vidhan Sabha.

Will meet PM and Home Minister-
Akhara Parishad Treasurer Shri Mahant Jaswinder Singh said that the office bearers of Akhara Parishad will go to Delhi soon to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in the acquired Math-temple case. The General Secretary of Akhara Parishad, Shri Mahant Rajendra Das said that instead of taking over the monasteries and temples, the governments should cooperate with the Sant Samaj in their operation. The income from the monasteries and temples is spent by the Sant Samaj on service projects like education, medicine. Due to which the needy section of the society gets benefit.

Under the fixed program, the pilgrim priest first reached the residence of cabinet minister Subodh Uniyal. Sitting outside the gate of the house, they raised slogans fiercely.

A pilgrim priest also protested by doing headstand. The convener of the Mahapanchayat, Suresh Semwal, said that the Devasthanam Board is not acceptable to him under any circumstances. This board will not be accepted. The government had demanded the dissolution of the Devasthanam Board by October 30. Assurance was also given. Despite this, no action has been taken by the government to dissolve the board so far.

This is a direct breach of promise with the pilgrim priests. During this, the pilgrim priests also expressed their indignation. Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal assured that action would be taken on their demands soon. The government is waiting for the report of the High Power Committee. The pilgrim priests expressed their displeasure over the committee’s report. Said that his side was not even heard by the committee. No call was sent for non-receipt.

After this, the pilgrimage priests gheraoed the residence of cabinet minister Bishan Singh Chufal. Surrounding Bishan Singh Chufal said that he has no faith in the High Power Committee. They just bluntly want the Devasthanam Board to be dissolved. Apart from this, nothing else is acceptable. As the remaining ministers were not at their residences, their houses could not be cordoned off. Now the secretariat will be marched on November 27.
