Bhubaneswar : Junior Hockey World Cup: Indian team reached the semi-finals by defeating Belgium, now will compete with Germany

The Indian team has reached the semi-finals of the Junior Hockey World Cup. India defeated Belgium 1-0 in the quarter-final match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday. For India, SN Tiwary scored from the penalty corner in the 21st minute of the match.

This is India’s fifth consecutive win over Belgium in the Junior World Cup. India will face Germany in the semi-finals. Germany beat Spain 3-1 in a penalty shootout in another quarter-final. By the stipulated time, the match was tied at 2-2. The second semi-final will be played between France and Argentina. Both the semi-finals will be played on Friday. The final will be played on Sunday.

The Indian team is also the defending champion of the Junior Hockey World Cup. In the final of the last tournament held in Lucknow in 2016, India won the title by defeating Belgium. Then the Indian team won 2-1.

Germany is the champion of 6 times-
The semi-final match is not going to be easy for India. Germany is the most successful team in the Junior World Cup. Germany has won the title some 6 times. She won the title in 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 2009 and 2013. India has won the title twice. The Indian team became the champion in 2001 in Hobart and in 2016 in Lucknow.
