Shree Kedarnath : Effect of PM Modi’s appeal; Tourists, government agencies and NGOs engaged in cleaning Kedarnath Valley
Shree Kedarnath : Following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to the people to ensure cleanliness at the pilgrimage sites, pilgrims, government and non-government agencies on Tuesday launched a cleanliness drive near Kedarnath Dham.
Rudraprayag District Magistrate Mayur Dixit said that the administration will continuously monitor the status of waste management. As a result, the garbage spread in Kedarnath and surrounding areas is now being cleared. The district administration and employees of Sulabh International, an organization working on environmental protection, collected garbage from the Kedarnath area this morning.
Tourists took part in the cleanliness drive on their way to Gaurikund, Sonprayag and Kedarnath. Sonprayag is situated between Rudraprayag and Gaurikund on the way to Kedarnath. Referring to the mess spread by some pilgrims during the Char-Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday appealed to the people to maintain the dignity of the pilgrimage sites.
Speaking on this, Dr. Sarvesh Uniyal, official of the Department of Tourism, Garhwal University, said, “These days we are witnessing a huge influx of tourists to pilgrimage sites. After this a significant part of the environment gets affected. People carelessly throw plastic here and there. Throw it there. Keeping this in mind, Modi on Sunday appealed to the people to maintain the dignity of pilgrimage sites. I think we all have to work responsibly to protect the environment. Pilgrimage too There should be pilgrimage service.”
Dixit informed that cleanliness drive is also being conducted in Gaurikund, Sonprayag and Kedarnath areas, in which huge amount of garbage has been collected. He said that from now onwards we will regularly conduct cleanliness drives at the pilgrimage sites. It is worth mentioning that the Prime Minister had appealed in his address that wherever we go, we should maintain the dignity of the pilgrimage sites. He said, “We should never neglect purity, cleanliness and environment. For this it is necessary that we follow the norms of cleanliness.” Pic Credit: ANI
