Punjab: Double Murder in Hoshiarpur, Daughter-in-law Murdered her Mother and Father-in-law with her Lover, Burnt Dead Bodies
Hoshiarpur : The daughter-in-law killed her Mother-in-law and father-in-law along with her lover. A NRI’s wife set bodies on fire after killing her mother-in-law and Father-in-law with her alleged lover, a Granthi, by strangulating and stabbing them in village Jaja in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district.
The accused woman tried to give the color of robbery and murder but during the police investigation, the matter got cleared. The police have arrested the accused daughter-in-law and her lover Granthi by registering a case of murder. According to the information, at around 11:15 pm on January 1, Tanda police received information that an elderly couple had been murdered in their own house in Jaja village and their bodies were set on fire. Immediately DSP Rajkumar along with Chief Officer of Tanda police station Surjit Singh reached the spot and saw that Subedar Manjit Singh (56) and his wife Gurmeet Kaur (52) were set on fire in the bedroom itself and the bodies of both were badly burnt. At that time the son of the deceased Ravinder Singh and his wife Mandeep Kaur were present in the house.
According to the DSP, the deceased’s son Ravinder Singh told that he lives in Portugal and has come here these days. On January 1, he left the house at around 11 am and came home at around 10.15 pm. The door of the house was locked from inside, when he pushed open the door, there was smoke inside, the wife was tied to the chair in the room. As soon as he tried to open it, the binding loosened and was released. After this he went to his parents’ room and opened the door, there was a fire inside and the bodies of both were burnt. When he asked his wife, she told that around four o’clock in the evening, three people entered the house and tied her to a chair and closed the door and those same people have set the fire. Ravinder told that he had gone to Portugal soon after marriage and settled there. There he came to know that his wife talks to an unknown person for hours on the phone late at night. He stopped his wife but she did not listen. She used to threaten to kill his parents, so he returned to India on 7 December 2021.
According to the DSP, after information received from Ravinder, during the police investigation, it came to light that one door of the bathroom attached to Mandeep Kaur’s room opens in the bedroom and one in the lobby, which did not have a latch on either side. SSP Hoshiarpur Kulwant Singh Heer, headed by SP Headquarters Ashwini Kumar, formed a team based on DSP (Countryside) Sarabjit Rai, Inspector Balwinder Pal and Inspector Karnail and started the investigation for in-depth investigation if the evidence did not match with the story told by him. The team along with Chief Officer Police Station Tanda SI Surjit Singh went to the spot and investigated and solved the murder in a few hours.
According to the DSP, Jasmeet Singh, who works as a granthi in Gurdwara Sahib of village Data, originally from village Sanghad in Amritsar, had a long-standing relationship with the daughter-in-law of the deceased, Mandeep Kaur. Mandeep called her lover home and together they killed her mother-in-law and father-in-law. The bodies were set on fire with the intention of destroying the evidence. After the incident, both of them stole the jewelery from the mill, Jasmeet went away with the jewelry which the police have recovered from him.
According to the DSP, both the accused have been arrested after registering a case of murder, destruction of evidence and theft in the case. According to the DSP, Mandeep Kaur admitted that on November 23, she stole about 15 tola of gold from her maternal home along with her lover Jasmeet. A case has been registered in this regard at Tanda police station. According to the DSP, the knife, bike, jewelery and Rs 45,000 cash used in the incident have been recovered on the behest of the accused.
