Mumbai: Former BJP MP Kirit Somaiya injured in attack in late night

Mumbai . Suspected Shiv Sena activists attacked the vehicle of former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Kirit Somaiya here late on Saturday night, injuring him. The incident happened just before midnight, when Somaiya had come to meet the arrested couple Navneet Rana and her husband Ravi Rana.
Mumbai Police on Saturday evening arrested Amaravati Independent MP Navneet Rana and her husband Badnera MLA Ravi Rana after they spontaneously abandoned their plan to attack Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray’s residence.
Top BJP leaders including Leader of Opposition Devendra Fadnavis, Ashish Shelar and others strongly condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the attack. Somaiya, who has been given Z protection, was seen in his vehicle with blood on his jaw and the windows of his car were shattered in the attack.
Fadnavis said Somaiya had expressed apprehension to the Khar police that a large crowd was waiting outside and might attack them, and requested them to remove them. However, the police did not heed his warnings and allowed the attacks to happen even though prohibitory orders were in force in the surrounding areas.
He said he would write and speak to Home Minister Dilip Walse-Patil demanding strict action against the culprits and warned the Maha Vikas Aghadi government of dire consequences.
