Mumbai: Dead body of 21-year-old girl found in girls hostel, rape suspected
Mumbai: Dead body of a 21 year old girl has been found in a girls hostel in Churchgate area. According to the information, the girl was killed and locked in the room and the accused fled after locking the room from outside. Mumbai Police said that the room was locked from outside. A scarf was wrapped around the girl’s neck.
The police have expressed the possibility of rape with the girl. Police believe that the girl was murdered after the rape. The youth working in the hostel is absconding after the murder. The police is looking for him. The dead body has been sent for post-mortem. An FIR will be registered soon in the matter. The victim was a student of a reputed college in Bandra and she lived on the fourth floor of Savitribai Phule Girls Hostel on Marine Drive. Following an alert at around 4 pm, a team of Marine Drive Police Station along with senior officers reached the spot. Others in the hostel told that the girl, a resident of Akola, was preparing to go to her home in a day or two.
As per preliminary information, the security guard of the hostel identified as Prakash Kanojia is reportedly missing. Police are yet to officially comment on whether the incident is a murder or suicide, or whether any kind of assault is involved. A special team of the Divisional DCP, Crime Branch and local police is probing the matter.
