Karnataka: State Government has sought applications from Transgender candidates in Police Department

Bangalore : There is good news for transgenders. Now transgenders will get government employment in Karnataka. For the first time, the Government of Karnataka has invited applications from transgender candidates for recruitment in the State Police Department. As per the amendment of Karnataka Civil Services (General Recruitment) Rules, 1977, in order to facilitate providing one percent job to transgenders, Karnataka Police Department has invited applications from transgenders for various posts.

As per the recently released notification, four posts of Special Reserve Sub-Inspector for Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) and one post in India Reserve Battalion of the rank of Special Reserve Sub-Inspector will be reserved for transgender. According to the Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Rules 2020 framed by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, transgender candidates have to obtain a certificate from the District Magistrate. Certificate is mandatory.

The notification is published by the Additional Director General of Police (Recruitment). Out of 70, 5 posts have been earmarked for transgender. Eligible transgender candidates can apply online for the posts by 18 January. Apart from this, three posts have been reserved for transgender candidates for the post of Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) in Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL). Applications will be submitted by January 15.
