J&K: Aadhar Card Verification Mandatory for Amarnath Yatra, Notification Issued

J&K :The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday said that pilgrims wishing to undertake the Amarnath Yatra will have to submit their Aadhaar card or submit Aadhaar authentication voluntarily.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Monday said pilgrims desirous of undertaking the Amarnath Yatra will have to show their Aadhaar card or voluntarily submit Aadhaar for verification. This has been said in the notification issued by the General Administration Department, which will be applicable with immediate effect.

The notification said, “In pursuance of Rule 5 of the Aadhaar Authentication for Good Governance (Social Welfare, Innovation, Knowledge) Rules, 2020, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir with the prior approval of the Central Government, hereby notifies that the pilgrimage of Shri Amarnathji desirous of visiting the shrine shall produce proof of possession of Aadhaar or undergo Aadhaar authentication on a voluntary basis from the date of publication of this notification in the Official Gazette.

Opened to the general public after two years, the yatra will begin on June 30 and end on August 11.Travel was curtailed in 2019 as a precautionary measure after the Center imposed severe restrictions following the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, only the ritualistic aspects of the yatra were held in 2020 and 2021. Over one lakh devotees are expected to participate in this year’s pilgrimage.
