Goa : Another blow to Goa Congress, now working president Alekso Lourenco left the party

Goa: In yet another blow to the Congress ahead of the Goa assembly elections, state working president of the party, Alekso Reginaldo Lourenco, on Monday resigned as a member of the assembly, reducing the party’s tally to two in 40 assembly seats. Earlier, two other Congress leaders had also recently resigned as MLAs in the state.
Assembly elections are due in Goa early next year. Notably, the Congress last week announced its first list of eight candidates for the upcoming state elections and included Lourenco’s name. Lourenco, who represents Curtorim assembly constituency in South Goa district, submitted his resignation at the Speaker’s office on Monday afternoon.

Later, he also resigned from the Congress, sources said. Lourenco, who was the working president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee, did not comment on the matter. Sources said that he may soon join the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress Party (TMC).
