Chowk, Barowala, Police Station Patel Nagar, Dehradun)\u2014filed a formal complaint at the Patel Nagar Police Station. She stated that she and her cousin, Satyam Kumar (son of the late Naubhar Singh, resident of Bhagwanwala, Police Station Dhampur, District Bijnor, Uttar Pradesh; current address: D.S.P. Chowk, Barowala, Police Station Patel Nagar, Dehradun), were heading home on their scooter from V-Mart, Mandi Chowk, at approximately 7:40 PM that day. About 200 meters past the Jio Petrol Pump towards Barowala, two youths on a motorcycle approached from behind, cut in front of their scooter to block their path, and opened fire with the intent to kill, seriously injuring her cousin. ALSO READ: Young scientists and educationists from 29 schools gathered at MIT, Dhalwala; a magnificent event organized by the Narendra Nagar block, Tehri Garhwal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Upon receipt of the formal complaint, a case (FIR No. 614\/2026) was immediately registered at the Patel Nagar Police Station under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the BNS against unknown persons. Given the gravity of the incident, and acting on instructions from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Dehradun, separate teams were immediately constituted at the Patel Nagar Police Station to solve the case and arrest the accused. The teams examined CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding access routes. Simultaneously, information regarding the accused was gathered through electronic surveillance and other means. During the course of the investigation, the police received information on September 11, 2026, that the two accused\u2014who had previously carried out a shooting incident in the Badowala area\u2014had returned to Dehradun, likely to commit another crime. Acting on this tip-off, the police launched an intensive checking drive in the Patel Nagar area. During the operation, at Gorakhpur Chowk, the police signaled individuals riding a suspicious motorcycle without a number plate to stop; however, upon seeing the police checking, the riders sped away towards the road leading from Gorakhpur Chowk to Prem Nagar. The police team pursued them and alerted other stations in the district via the control room. Eventually, the two riders abandoned their motorcycle on a tea garden trail and fled towards the forest. As the police team gave chase, the suspects opened fire on the officers. In the ensuing retaliatory fire for self-defense, one miscreant was shot in the leg, while the other managed to escape under the cover of darkness. The injured miscreant was identified as Ankit Chauhan (25), son of Dhruv Narayan, a resident of Society Road, Laksar, Keshav Nagar, Haridwar; the absconding suspect was identified as Ankur. At the scene, the police team recovered a country-made pistol, live and spent cartridges, and a motorcycle from the accused&#8217;s possession.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During interrogation, the accused revealed that a few days earlier, he and his associate, Ankur, had fired at a bank employee in the Barowala area with the intent to kill. The injured accused was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, and the police are conducting an intensive search and combing operation to locate his absconding accomplice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Details of the interrogation:<\/strong><br \/>\nDuring interrogation, the accused revealed that he had previously been imprisoned for criminal offenses. Some time ago, he met Mohit, a resident of Ranipur, Haridwar, who was aware of his past criminal record. Mohit introduced him to a friend named Malia Rahman, who worked at a private bank. Malia told him that while working at Ujjivan Bank in Haridwar in 2020, she had met Satyam Kumar\u2014a resident of Bijnor\u2014who was her colleague at the bank. Satyam had strung her along with false promises of marriage for about four to five years before eventually getting engaged to another woman.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the police, Mohit and Malia offered him a substantial sum of money to eliminate Satyam, specifically promising \u20b95 lakh for the killing. Before the incident, Malia gave him an advance of \u20b91.20 lakh, with the agreement that the remaining amount would be paid after Satyam was eliminated. It was Malia who provided him with a photograph of Satyam and pointed out the Ujjivan Bank office in Dehradun.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On September 8, 2026, the accused arrived in Dehradun with his associate, Ankur, to execute the plan; in the evening, he waited outside Ujjivan Bank for Satyam to appear. Around 7:45 PM, when Satyam left the bank, the accused followed him on his motorcycle. At a secluded spot in Badowala on the Shimla Bypass Road, the accused cut off Satyam&#8217;s scooter with his motorcycle and fired at him with the intent to kill. Satyam was wounded by the gunshot but managed to flee towards nearby bushes. Hearing the sound of the gunshot, a crowd gathered, prompting both accused to flee the scene for fear of being caught. Following the incident, the accused fled to Delhi and subsequently to Haryana to evade the police.
