Bijnor: A campaign to save and conserve dolphins is underway, and a survey is being conducted. The second phase of this campaign has now begun in Bijnor. The team conducted the survey from a boat. The second campaign for a comprehensive assessment of dolphins found in river and estuarine areas across India has been launched from Bijnor. The current survey is following the same standardized methodology as the previous one, but it will also include new areas and operational zones. This includes estimating the population of a new species, the Irrawaddy dolphin, found in the Sundarbans and Odisha. This expanded geographical coverage will help in updating population estimates of this species, assessing threats and habitat conditions, and developing better conservation plans under Project Dolphin.
