UP Gangster Vinay Tyagi dies in Aiims Rishikesh

Rishikesh: Gangster Vinay Tyagi has died. He succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh. Notably, the notorious Vinay Tyagi was seriously injured in a firing incident by two motorcycle-borne assailants on a flyover in Laksar, Haridwar. He was shot on December 24th while police personnel were taking him from Roorkee jail to the Laksar ACJM court for a hearing in a fraud case involving Rs 1.5 crore. A panel of doctors conducted his post-mortem. After the inquest report was filed in the presence of a magistrate, his family members took the body to Meerut.
57-year-old Vinay Tyagi was originally from Khaikhedi, Purkazi, Muzaffarnagar (Uttar Pradesh). He also had a house in Jagriti Vihar, Meerut. He was referred to AIIMS Rishikesh from Haridwar after being injured by three bullets fired by two motorcycle-borne assailants. Doctors operated on him late on December 24th and he was placed on a ventilator. AIIMS Public Relations Officer Dr. Shrilay Mohanty said that Vinay Tyagi died at 7:30 AM on Saturday morning. The post-mortem process continued till around 3 PM. Naib Tehsildar Zahid Hasan conducted the inquest proceedings. CO Laksar Natasha Singh also reached the mortuary. Security arrangements were tightened during this time.
Tyagi had more than 60 cases registered against him:
Vinay Tyagi was originally from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. He had more than 60 cases registered against him, including attempted murder, robbery, theft, extortion, and organized crime. He entered the world of crime in the 1980s at the young age of 16.
He was jailed in September for bag theft:
On September 15, Vinay Tyagi’s friend Pramod Tyagi filed a case against him for stealing a bag from a car in Ashok Vihar Nehru Colony, Dehradun. Police arrested him on September 30th in connection with this case. Jewelry and silver coins worth four lakh rupees, along with 15,000 rupees in cash, were recovered from him. Following this, the police registered a case under the Gangster Act against Vinay Tyagi and his two accomplices. After being held in Sudhowala jail for about two months, he was transferred to Roorkee jail. The fact that a notorious criminal was arrested for ordinary theft and sent to jail raised many questions at the time. Both Vinay and the police came under scrutiny. Now, the style of the attack and the role of the police have sparked a new debate.
