The Chairperson of the Women’s Commission reached the District Jail, Pauri Garhwal to know the condition of women prisoners and reviewed the arrangements

    Pauri: On Monday, State Women Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal inspected the District Jail Pauri during her visit to Pauri Garhwal and took stock of the  arrangements/facilities available to the women prisoners there. During the inspection, the Commission Chairperson came to know about the problems of the women prisoners. In the prison, she inquired about the basic facilities being provided to the women prisoners. During the inspection, Jail Superintendent DP Sinha informed that the women barrack of the prison is made as per the arrangement of 10 women prisoners in which currently 8 women prisoners are living. The chairperson of the commission also inspected the food, medical treatment and other arrangements provided to the women prisoners.

While talking to the women prisoners during the inspection, she said that her only purpose of coming here is to understand the problems of the women prisoners and to solve their problems. If any woman prisoner is facing any kind of problem in staying here, she can tell her without hesitation. She said that she will try to connect the women prisoners here with self-employment so that after coming out of the prison, women can strengthen their economy by doing self-employment. She said that for this, employment-oriented training should be given to women in the jail and they should also be given raw materials for business purposes so that the goods made by the women prisoners can be linked to self-help groups and taken to the market.

In this sequence of inspection, the chairperson of the commission also inspected the One Stop Center (Sakhi). She saw the condition of the shelter prepared for the victimized women in the center and also inquired about the complaints registered in Sakhi Center. During this, it was found that all the 422 complaints registered in the center have been resolved. Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal also saw the case register during this time. After the inspection, Commission Chairperson Kusum Kandwal also discussed with District Magistrate Pauri Dr. Ashish Chauhan about women’s safety and rights. She directed District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan to set up ICC committees in all departments and review them. The Commission Chairperson said that new steps will have to be taken in the direction of women empowerment so that all the women of the district can benefit from the schemes run by the government. She has also given instructions to connect women and daughters of rural and remote areas with groups, and to cooperate in converting the garbage dump parks into flower gardens, a new initiative of state agitator Beena Bhandari, and verification of laborers and street vendors coming from outside and living in the district. During the inspection, Jail Superintendent DP Sinha, District Program Officer Devendra Thapliyal, Police Circle Officer Sadar Pauri Anuj Kumar, Child Development Project Officer, along with various administrative officers etc. were present.
