Srinagar: The ninth convocation of Hemwati Nandan Garhwal Central University Srinagar Garhwal concluded today. The Chief Guest of the convocation held at Swami Manmathan Auditorium joined through online medium due to the busyness of the Parliamentary session while the Chief Guest Chief of Defense Staff, Ministry of Defence, Government of India, General Bipin Rawat reached Srinagar as per the schedule. The Chancellor of the University, Dr. Yogendra Narayan presided over the function organized through online medium. On this occasion, the famous folk singer Gadratna Narendra Singh Negi ji was conferred the title of Doctor of Letters for his incomparable contribution to folk art and music.
In the ninth convocation, 147 PhD, 10 MPhil and 3659 postgraduate degrees were awarded. Apart from this, 59 gold medals and a cash prize of ten thousand rupees were given to the students who got the highest marks in various subjects. While lighting the lamp with the distinguished guests, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Annapurna Nautiyal, in the welcome address, the Chief Guest of the Convocation, Hon’ble Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Special Guest Chief of Defense Staff, Defense-Ministry General Bipin Rawat, folk singer Narendra Singh Negi, Chancellor Dr. Yogendra Narayan Including all the guests and participants were welcomed.
Addressing the function on this occasion, Hon’ble Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan congratulated all the medal winners and said that Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University is contributing effectively in nation building. Expressing his views on the New Education Policy, he said that the New Education Policy is going to become an important tool to fulfill the dreams and aspirations of the Indian youth.
At the ceremony, the first Chief of Defense Staff of the Government of India, General Bipin Rawat, congratulated the students and said that General Rawat said, it is a matter of great pride and privilege for them to be present in their motherland. Responding to a request made by Professor Annapurna Nautiyal regarding setting up of a Chair of Excellence in the University, General Rawat said that officials from the Defense Ministry and the Indian Army would look into the possibility of setting up a Chair in the University. General Rawat also expressed happiness that this university is already running many excellent courses which can meet the requirement of the Indian Army and the strategically important state of Uttarakhand. While encouraging the initiators, he said that the youth should focus on employment generation instead of seeking jobs.
On the other hand, famous folk singer of Uttarakhand Narendra Singh Negi said that this honor given to him by Garhwal University is an honor to motherland Uttarakhand and its litterateurs, folk singers, artists, on this occasion he appealed to promote folk language and folk culture through the university. .
In his address at the convocation, Vice Chancellor Prof. Annapurna Nautiyal said that the university had established the program in 1973. Having come a long way since inception, achieved many achievements. Giving information about the implementation of the New Education Policy and Credit Transfer System, he said that the New Education Policy (NEP) is being implemented by a 42-member committee.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Nautiyal said that at present there are more than 48 research projects going on in the university and 05 MoUs have been signed with national and international agencies and institutions in 2021. Apart from this, the faculty members have published 361 research papers in research journals, 130 chapters in books, 27 books and 04 research journals and have obtained 05 national and international patents for the faculty members and researcher. He said that the university is moving in the right direction and we have to prepare aware and sensitive citizens from the university by creating an enriching and creative environment.
Presiding over the function, Dr. Yogendra Narayan, Chancellor of the University welcomed the chief guest and the special guest. Delivering his presidential address, Dr. Narayan congratulated all the award winners. On this occasion, he urged the students to imbibe knowledge along with art and science. Highlighting the national need, the Chancellor said that universities should decide their role in areas like urban planning, public health, diplomacy, waste management, disaster management in the national interest.
In the end the vote of thanks was given by Dr. Ajay Kumar Khanduri, Registrar of the University. On the other hand, the coordinator of the convocation, Prof. Y.P. Raiwani thanked all the members of the convocation for successfully organizing the program. Dr. Shweta Verma and Dr. Himshikha Gusain conducted the function.
