Russian intelligence agency FSB arrested the accused diplomat in a moving car, sentenced for 12 years

Moscow/New Delhi : Officers of the Russian intelligence agency FSB arrested the accused diplomat in a moving car. He was then brought before a court, and nearly a year later, the court handed down his sentence.  A video of the Russian diplomat being arrested red-handed for spying for the US is going viral on social media. A Russian court sentenced 38-year-old Arseny Konovalov on Friday (December 26, 2025) to 12 years in prison for sharing intelligence with the United States.

In the viral video, officers of the Russian secret agency FSB, the Federal Security Bureau, can be seen handcuffing the accused diplomat in a moving vehicle (van). The video also shows the diplomat in a prison and then standing in the dock in court. The Russian official was arrested in 2024. According to reports, the FSB officially released this video after the diplomat was sentenced on Friday (December 26, 2025). This video comes at a time when relations between Russia and the US are showing signs of improvement. Konovalov was arrested in 2024. For a long time, Konovalov worked at the Russian embassy in the United States. During that time, the accused diplomat began working for the US. He shared confidential information related to Russia with the United States.

The FSB apprehended Konovalov immediately after his return to Russia from the US. After a trial that lasted nearly a year, a Russian court found the diplomat guilty and pronounced the sentence. US severed ties with Russia after the Ukraine war. After the attack on Ukraine, the US completely severed ties with Russia and imposed dozens of sanctions. During the Ukraine war, there were several instances when a military confrontation between Russia and the US seemed imminent. The two countries had even aimed long-range missiles at each other. Earlier this year, Donald Trump’s return to power in the US brought relations with Russia back on track. Trump also attempted to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
