Robotic Gall Bladder Surgery in Rare Anatomical Anomaly Performed in Rishikesh AIIMS
Rishikesh :In the surgical gastroenterology department of AIIMS Rishikesh, a rare condition “Sites inversus” was successfully performed by a robot in cheek bladder surgery. According to the doctors, the patient is completely healthy after the surgery.
Institute’s Executive Director Professor Prof. Meenu Singh has praised the medical team for this achievement. Dr. Nirjhar Raj, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, told that the woman resident of Meerut had pain on the left side of the abdomen three months ago. After which the woman got it tested at Saharanpur Medical College, in which it was found that she was having pain in the stomach. The cause is a stone in the Gall Bladder. The special thing in this case is that the woman’s cheek bladder is on the left side of the abdomen, whereas it is usually on the right side. Further tests revealed that the woman was suffering from a rare anatomical anomaly called “sites inversus”, in which the organs in the chest and abdomen are in reverse positions. The heart is on the right side of the body and the liver in the abdomen, the gall bladder on the left side of the abdomen while the spleen is on the right side of the abdomen. Therefore this case was referred to AIIMS by Saharanpur Medical College.
Dr. Nirjhar Raj told that laparoscopy cheek bladder surgery is a common procedure, but the medical team faces some difficulty in the procedure due to the opposite position in the body instead of the organs. Therefore, the gastro surgery team of the institute decided to do this surgery by robotic method. Although a major part of the surgery has to be performed in this also with the non-dominant hand, yet it has an advantage over laparoscopy due to the greater degree of movement of the instrument. Dr. Praveen Talwar, Additional Professor, Department of Anesthesia, said that it was difficult for the woman to insert a throat tube for Anaesthesia. Which was executed well by the expert team. Dr. Dipti, Dr. Mithun, Dr. Neeraj, Residents of Gastro Surgery Department, Dr. Alisha, Residents of Anesthesia Department, Dr. Ashmita and OT Nursing Officers Deep, Ritesh played an important role in the successful surgery team.
