Rishikesh :The first Sheep and Goat artificial insemination laboratory for breed improvement in the state has been established

The Union Minister said that Uttarakhand would emerge as a fine wool producing state in the coming 10 years under the guidance of the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister. Animal Husbandry Department Secretary BVRC Purushottam, Secretary Arminakshi Sundaram, Animal Husbandry Department Director Dr. Prem Kumar, Additional Director Dr. Avinash Anand, Project Coordinator Dr. Kamal Singh, Veterinary Officer from Dehradun Dr. KK Mishra were present on the occasion.
Artificial Insemination has been done in about 3000 sheep and goats till present-
In the laboratory in December 2019, high quality marino rams imported from Australia and semen of goats of Sirohi, Barbari, Jamunapari, Beetle, Jakhrana species will be produced and transmitted widely in the state. Breed improvement work is to be done in sheep and goats in the state. This will increase the wool quality of sheep as well as increase in the weight of sheep and goats and will improve the livelihood and standard of living of sheep and goat farmers. Under the scheme operated through Uttarakhand Sheep and Wool Development Board, artificial insemination has been done in about 3000 sheep and goats till present.
