Rishikesh: THDC India Limited and IIT Roorkee sign MoU for collaborative translational research and development


Rishikesh: A new era has begun in the history of THDCIL. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director, THDC India Limited informed that, THDCIL and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee have taken this collaborative initiative as an important milestone to enhance research and development in the field of science, engineering and technology. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 25 October 2023.

Vishnoi further said that this MoU underlines the commitment of both the institutes in conducting a wide range of research activities, including energy conservation, alternatives to lion storage batteries, nanotechnology for electric vehicle batteries, green hydrogen, geothermal technology, climate change, waste management and recycling, water management and conservation, vortex induced vibration, tunneling techniques, biofuels, improving grid stability, and a variety of other related areas, which are part of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). ) are included in the scope of. Vishnoi also said that this cooperation; In line with the vision of a developed India, it is for both fundamental and translational research, with the overarching goal of bridging the gap between industrial and academic sectors. Explaining the important areas of cooperation set out in this MoU, R.K. Vishnoi said, this collaboration between THDC India Limited and IIT Roorkee represents a significant initiative in the field of industrial research, innovation and technological advancement, which has the potential to provide unprecedented solutions for various industrial and vertical applications. THDCIL is one of the leading power producers in the country with an installed capacity of 1587 MW, thanks to its operational projects including Tehri in Uttarakhand. Dam and HPP (1000 MW), Koteshwar HEP (400 MW), wind power projects of 50 MW and 63 MW respectively at Patan and Dwarka in Gujarat and 24 MW Dhukwan Small Hydro Electric Project at Jhansi in Uttar Pradesh and Kasaragod in Kerala. This includes a 50 MW solar power project.
