Widespread protests in protest, prohibitory orders imposed in Pakistan’s capital, party alleges – Rangers misbehaved with former PM and lawyers

Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was arrested by paramilitary forces from the Islamabad High Court premises on Tuesday. Imran had reached the court for a hearing in a corruption case. After the arrest of Imran, the workers of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) demonstrated and created ruckus in Islamabad. After this the Pakistan Police imposed prohibitory orders in the city. PTI workers blocked roads and demonstrated in other parts of the country including Lahore. Amidst all this, the police have termed the situation as ‘under control’.

Islamabad police quoted Inspector General (IG) Akbar Nasir Khan as saying in a statement that Khan has been arrested in connection with the case, which alleged that Khan and his wife received billions of rupees from a real estate company . A National Accountability Bureau (NAB) official said, “Khan has been arrested in connection with the transfer of land to property baron Malik Riaz and is being handed over to NAB.” According to the Dawn newspaper, Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court Aamer Farooq told the Islamabad police chief, interior ministry secretary and additional attorney general, “Come to the court and tell us why and in what case Imran was arrested.”
