New Delhi : India’s star boxer Mary Kom announced her retirement from professional boxing on Wednesday, January 25. The 6-time world champion has cited her age as the reason behind her retirement from all competitions. But later on she denied any retirement plan. She said her statement was misinterpreted by the media.

41-year-old Mary Kom said during an event, “If I speak from my heart, I still have the hunger to do something.” I still want to compete and represent the country, but due to age I will not be able to compete from this year.”Mary is the first female boxer in boxing history to capture six World Championship titles. The 5-time Asian champion was the first female boxer from India to win a gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games. The veteran boxer won a bronze medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games. He introduced himself to the world at the age of 18 at the inaugural World Conference in Scranton, Pennsylvania. She became the first Indian to win a gold medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships.
