Manipur: four-time national champion Sarjubala Devi became a professional boxer of India

Manipur: India’s veteran female boxer and Olympian Sarjubala Devi has now ventured into professional boxing. Deciding to foray into the professional circuit, Sarjubala has signed a deal with India’s leading boxing promoter Mujtaba Kamal and Grassroots Boxing Promotions and Management. Will play in professional boxing in Dubai on 26 February.

Sarjubala, 28, from Manipur, who won a silver medal at the 2014 AIBA World Boxing Championship in Korea, is a former youth world boxing gold medalist. Sarjubala is a four-time national champion and has won medals in many international tournaments. Brigadier PK Muraleedharan Raja, President, Boxing Council of India said, “Sarjubala is a brilliant boxer and it is good news for her and her fans that she is foraying into professional boxing. His career and family background is already an inspiration to the youth of Manipur. Indian women have also started coming in professional boxing. In such a situation, more players can also come forward in professional boxing in the coming days.
