New Delhi : The ongoing dispute between India and Maldives is well known and is still not over. Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu deliberately launched the ‘India Out’ campaign to mess with India, under which he made an agenda to expel Indian soldiers from the country. By May 10, Indian soldiers will leave Maldives, who will be replaced by qualified technical staff from India. Not only this, during the visit of Indian PM Narendra Modi to Lakshadweep and promotion of Lakshadweep, three ministers of Maldives had given controversial comments about PM Modi and Indians. Although the three ministers later had to be expelled, Muizzu did not oppose the ministers’ comments on the matter. Maldives did mess with India, but by doing so now Maldives is badly trapped.

According to a report that came some time ago, Maldives has gone bankrupt. Yes, you read it right. Maldives has informed the IMF (International Monetary Fund – IMF) about its bankruptcy while sharing its situation. After bankruptcy, Maldives has now sought a bailout loan from the IMF. After messing up with India, the already struggling economy of Maldives got an even bigger blow and now it has reached the point of bankruptcy. In such a situation, Maldives has asked for a loan from the IMF to improve the situation.

There was a time when India and Maldives had good relations. But after Muizzu became the President of Maldives, relations between the two countries started to deteriorate. Muizzu has been anti-India since the beginning. For this reason he was adamant on removing the Indian army from Maldives. At the same time, the comments of Maldives ministers after PM Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep created anger among Indians. Due to this a large number of Indians started opposing Maldives. Big celebs and many people started canceling their trips to Maldives. Many traveling companies of India also started canceling bookings ranging from flights to hotels in Maldives. This dealt a big blow to Maldives tourism. Last year, Indians were at the top among the travelers going to Maldives, but now India has come down to fifth place in this matter. The number of tourists visiting Maldives from India has declined significantly in January and will continue to do so.

Not only in tourism, Maldives has also suffered a big blow in medical, education and many other essential things for which Maldives was largely dependent on India. The situation has become such that Maldives has been forced to seek help from Sri Lanka in emergency medical matters. Pakistan, which itself is struggling with poverty, is offering to help Maldives. Although China can help Maldives, China’s help will prove costly for Maldives in the long run. In such a situation, Maldives has shot itself in the foot by messing with India.
