Kolkata:  Passenger train services between India and Bangladesh will resume from today. Train services between the cities of Kolkata and Bangladesh were suspended in March 2020 as a precautionary measure against the spread of COVID-19. Railway Board has issued orders to restart Dhaka to Kolkata-Dhaka Friendship Express by Bangladesh Railway rake and Kolkata to Kolkata-Khulna Bandhan Express by Indian Railway rake on 29th May, 2022.

The move is aimed at providing better facilities to the passengers of both India and Bangladesh. Eklavya Chakraborty, Chief Public Relations Officer of Eastern Railway said, “Kolkata-Dhaka-Kolkata Maitri Express and Kolkata-Khulna-Kolkata Bandhan Express will resume from May 29 for the convenience of passengers from both India and Bangladesh.”

The services of the NJP-Dhaka Mithali Express are planned to be started after the Mithali Express was digitally flagged off by the Railway Ministers of India and Bangladesh from Rail Bhavan on June 1. The Bangladeshi Railway Minister is expected to be in India during that time.
