Rishikesh: Insulin Meet 2024 was organized at AIIMS, Rishikesh under the joint aegis of Cardio Diabetic Society, Uttarakhand and UK-RSSDI. In the workshop, experts informed the resident doctors and nursing officers about the standards and methods of giving insulin to different categories of diabetic patients to control sugar. On Thursday, the workshop organized by Cardio Diabetic Society, Uttarakhand and Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India Uttarakhand Chapter (UK-RSSDI) was jointly inaugurated by the Executive Director of the Institute Professor (Dr.) Meenu Singh, Chief Guest Dean Academic Prof. Shailendra Handu and Medical Superintendent Prof. Sanjeev Kumar Mittal as the chief guest.
On this occasion, experts presented a series of lectures on the standards of quantity of insulin given to control diabetes in different types of patients suffering from diabetes. Resident doctors, nurses and MBBS students of the institute participated in the one-day workshop. In the workshop, especially nursing officers were also trained on the methods of giving insulin doses to patients suffering from diabetes. On this occasion, Executive Director Prof. Meenu Singh said that it is very important to have correct information about the insulin given to a diabetic patient for correct and effective treatment. Organizing committee chairman and General Medicine Department head Professor Ravikant gave detailed information to the participants about the insulin dose to be given to any diabetic patient before and after surgery.
During this, the institute’s diabetologist Prof. Ravikant also discussed the role of insulin in type-2 diabetic patients. The institute’s endocrinologist Dr. Kalyani Sridharan highlighted the importance of insulin for diabetic patients to the participants. Also, the methods of giving insulin were explained. He also gave information about the usage and standards of insulin along with steroids. Emergency Medicine Department Head Dr. Nidhi Kale gave information related to the use of insulin in extremely critical patients coming to the emergency medicine department. Medicine Department’s Dr. Mukesh Bairwa discussed the topic related to the insulin dose given to patients admitted in the ICU. Dean Prof. Handu, MS Prof. Mittal etc. also delivered lectures on this occasion. Instructor Pankaj Punjot gave training to resident doctors and nursing officers on how to administer insulin in the workshop. On this occasion, UK-RSSDI President Dr. Vipin Mehra and Scientific Committee Chairman Dr. Sanjay Shah announced help in providing free insulin to children suffering from type-one diabetes from the UK-RSSDI organization. Organizing Committee Head Prof. Ravikant, Organizing Secretary Dr. Mukesh Bairwa, Dr. Rifika, Dr. Aishwarya, Dr. Sahil, Dr. Balachandra, Dr. Om, Dr. Anushka, Dr. Swati, besides faculty members and doctors from various departments were present.
