New Delhi: Indore city of Madhya Pradesh has once again become the cleanest city of the country. Indore has again secured the first position in the cleanliness ranking. Surat and Pune were also in the race for the first position along with Indore. However, Indore again won. Indore secured the overall first position in the Super Swachh League Cities category of cities with a population of more than 10 lakh. Surat, Navi Mumbai have been ranked among the top cities. In the Swachhta Survey, Noida has been ranked first among cities with a population of 3 to 10 lakh. While Chandigarh has been ranked second and Mysore has been ranked third. Talking about cities with a population of 50 thousand to 3 lakh, New Delhi Municipal Corporation area has been ranked first.

Kailash Vijayvargiya has received this honor from President Draupadi Murmu on Indore being declared the cleanest city. Indore has won this title for the 8th consecutive time. President Draupadi Murmu presented the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 award at a function of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MOHUA) at Vigyan Bhavan. The central government conducts such a survey every year to promote cleanliness among cities. Many standards are included in it. Entering the 9th year of the Swachh Survey, this time more than 4500 cities were included in the Swachh Survey. In these, cities are tested on 10 parameters and 54 indicators including cleanliness, waste management and disposal. A smart vision has been adopted to assess urban cleanliness in Swachh Survekshan 2024-25. In this, public participation is given prominence on a large scale.

Swachh Survekshan-2024, which is the world’s largest survey to assess urban cleanliness in India. This survey has entered its 9th edition this year. This year awards were given in categories like ‘Super Swachh League City, Top in five population categories, Clean City, Special Category: Ganga City, Cantonment Board, Safai Mitra Suraksha, Mahakumbh, State Level Award etc. Indore, Ujjain and Budni of the state will be awarded with Super Swachh League category, Bhopal, Dewas and Shahganj with President’s Award, Jabalpur with Special Category and Gwalior with State Level Award. Apart from this, the results of star rating of garbage free cities and Open Defecation Free Cities categories (ODF++, Water+) were also released on the same day.

This year’s theme is “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”

This year’s survey was based on the theme of “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. In this, a conscious, structured approach has been adopted to assess urban cleanliness and service level, in which each ward of more than 4 thousand 500 cities across the country was thoroughly inspected for 45 days by more than 3 thousand evaluators on the basis of cleanliness and waste management in cities on 10 well-defined parameters including 54 indicators. More than 11 lakh houses were evaluated including unwavering commitment to inclusiveness, transparency in various parameters of cleanliness. It reflects a comprehensive and far-reaching approach to understand the meaning of urban life and cleanliness at the national level. In the evaluation of the Swachh Survey of the year 2024, about 14 crore countrymen also gave their feedback through direct dialogue, Swachhta App, MyGov and social media platforms. A new initiative Super Swachh League (SSL) has been launched for cities that have excelled in cleanliness. The objective of the Super Swachh League is to motivate top performing cities to reach high standards of cleanliness as well as encourage other cities to improve their performance and compete for top rankings. The Clean City League will include those cities that have been ranked in the top three at least once in the last three years and are currently in the top 20 percent in their respective population category.

On this occasion, star ratings of garbage free cities, freedom from open defecation (ODF) and Water Plus certification for management of used water will also be released for all cities of the country. Apart from these, 44 urban bodies have also submitted their claims for Water Plus. On eight cities receiving the honour at the national level, the Chief Minister of the state Dr. Mohan Yadav has congratulated all the winning cities. In his message, he congratulated all Safai Mitras, citizens, public representatives, employees, officers and all colleagues for this achievement.
