Emergency situation in Nepal! Army imposes nationwide curfew, strict warning to protesters

Kathmandu : The Nepali Army on Wednesday imposed nationwide prohibitory orders from morning to 5 pm and extended the curfew till 6 am the next day to prevent any possible violence under the guise of protests. The army warned in a statement that any kind of demonstration, vandalism, arson and attacks targeting individuals or property during this period will be treated as criminal activity and will be dealt with. It said that the prohibitory orders will be in effect from morning to 5 pm across the country and thereafter curfew will be in force till 6 am on Thursday.
He resigned from the post on Tuesday, shortly after hundreds of protesters barged into Prime Minister Oli’s office demanding his resignation after at least 19 people died in police action during a demonstration by ‘Gen-G’ on Monday against corruption and the government’s ban on social media. The ban on social media was lifted on Monday night. However, the protests continued even after his resignation. Protesters had set fire to Parliament, the President’s Office, the Prime Minister’s residence, government buildings, offices of political parties and houses of senior leaders.
The army said these steps were necessary to prevent possible incidents of looting, arson and other destructive activities under the guise of protests. The statement said, “There is also a threat of rape and violent attacks. Keeping in mind the security situation in the country, prohibitory orders and curfew have been imposed.” The statement clarified that vehicles and personnel engaged in essential services, including ambulances, fire brigades, health workers and security forces, will be allowed to work during prohibitory orders and curfew.
