Delhi:Proposal for ‘Uniform Civil Code’ introduced in Rajya Sabha as a private member’s bill

New Delhi : Bharatiya Janata Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Kirori Lal Meena has presented a proposal for Uniform Civil Code (Uniform Civil Code) in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. This bill has not been introduced by the government in the Rajya Sabha. BJP MP Kirori Lal Meena proposed this bill as a ‘Private Member’s Bill’ before the Rajya Sabha for reintroduction.

As soon as this proposal was made in the House of Kirori Lal Meena, the opposition MPs started creating ruckus.Speaker Jaideep Dhankhar had to intervene due to opposition from several opposition MPs including Samajwadi Party, CPIM, NCP. The Speaker assured the opposition MPs that every action in the House would be conducted as per the laid down rules. He requested the opposition MPs to participate in the discussion and express their views.

Samajwadi Party’s Rajya Sabha MP Ram Gopal Yadav, commenting on the Uniform Civil Code, said that marrying a cousin is considered good among Muslims, but it is considered bad among us Hindus, in such a situation, how will the government implement the Uniform Civil Code . The Samajwadi Party MP said from which side the government would start to make such provisions uniform.

Many MPs including Rajya Sabha MP Vaiko, Abdul Wahab, Vikas Ranjan Bhattacharya, AA Rahim gave notices by registering their objection against this private member bill of BJP MP.

IUML’s Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala, Abdul Wahab said that Uniform Civil Code cannot be implemented in India under any circumstances. While speaking in the Rajya Sabha, Wahab said that this is another intolerance, it should not be allowed to happen.

At the same time, the MPs of the Bharatiya Janata Party continued to support the Uniform Civil Court. When the situation of ruckus arose, the Chairman again intervened and urged all the members to speak only when their turn came.

Elamaram Kareem of CPIM, another Rajya Sabha MP from Kerala, told the Chairman that the Chairman should direct Kirori Lal Meena to withdraw the motion as it would destroy the diversity of the country. He said that things should not be imposed in this way.
