Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the new Parliament House of India, installs ‘Sengol’
New Delhi: Its historic moment. It is a big day for democracy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the new Parliament House of India today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday inaugurated the new Parliament House after installing the historic ‘Sengol’ near the Lok Sabha Speaker’s chair.
The Prime Minister, along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, unveiled a plaque to mark the inauguration of the new Parliament House. Earlier, the saints handed over the holy Sengol to Prime Minister Modi with rituals, puja-havan and chanting of mantras. The Prime Minister along with Lok Sabha Speaker Birla went to the Lok Sabha Chamber in the new Parliament House and installed this sacred Sengol near the Speaker’s seat. It was brought from Tamil Nadu in the year of India’s independence i.e. 1947, the same sengol which was given by the British on 14th August 1947 at around 10:45 pm, as a symbol of transfer of power, to Jawahar Lal, the then Prime Minister of the country and independent India. handed over to Nehru. Earlier, on reaching Parliament House on Sunday morning, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla received Prime Minister Modi. After this, Prime Minister Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Birla went to the Gandhi statue located in the Parliament House complex and paid floral tributes to him. After saluting Mahatma Gandhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed a puja-havan. During this also Lok Sabha Speaker Birla sat next to him.
The ceremony started with a Havan in the morning. The Prime Minister also honored the workers involved in the construction and development of the new Parliament House by presenting them with shawls and mementos.PM Modi participated in the ‘Sarva-Dharma’ (all-religious) prayer ceremony at the new Parliament House along with Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla and cabinet ministers.Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, S. Jaishankar and Jitendra Singh, chief ministers of several states and BJP president J.P. Nadda is also present. Twenty opposition parties, including the Congress, are boycotting the inauguration of the new four-storey Parliament building.
