New Delhi : Once again twitter is in highlight. This time regarding Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s twitter handle. PM’s Twitter handle was briefly hacked on Sunday. It also contained a tweet claiming that India has “officially adopted bitcoin as legal tender”.
Later, the Prime Minister’s Office said that the account was immediately secured after the matter escalated on Twitter. After the matter came to light, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) in its tweet said, “The Twitter handle of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was tampered with. The matter has been taken up with Twitter and the account has been immediately secured. Any tweets made during that time the account was tampered with should be ignored.”
After Modi’s personal handle was hacked, the tweet also claimed that India has officially bought 500 BTC and is distributing them among its residents and shared a link asking people to hurry . Several users immediately indicated that the account had been hacked.
It may be noted that India has taken a tough stance on cryptocurrencies. The government may introduce a bill on cryptocurrencies and has expressed concern that they could be used to lure investors with misleading claims and finance terrorist activities.
