Delhi: A helicopter of the Pakistan Army has crashed in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). Two pilots died in the accident. According to the information received from the media, the helicopter crash happened near the Siachen area.
Pilots who lost the life were Major Irfan Bercha and Major Raja Zeeshan Jahanzeb, the Inter-Service Public Relations (ISPR) said, adding that search and rescue helicopters and army troops had reached the site of the accident following the crash. The army said that both the pilots have died. The reason behind the accident is not yet known. The area where the helicopter crashed is one of the highest battlefields in the world. Troops from Pakistan and India have been stationed in the region since the 1980s. In August this year, two similar incidents of plane crashes were reported.
However, no casualties were reported in both these incidents. The first incident took place near Attock in Punjab when a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) fighter trainer aircraft crashed during a routine training mission on 6 August. An Pak army spokesman then said that both the pilots had successfully ejected from the jet, without causing any damage. At the same time, it happened in late December last year and four Pakistani soldiers were killed in a helicopter crash.
