Delhi: Medical students from abroad can complete their internship in India: NMC

New Delhi. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has said that students who have not completed their internship abroad for medical studies can now complete their internship in India.

However, the NMC has clarified that students have to clear the Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) before applying to complete their internship in India. FMGE exam is conducted twice a year by the National Board of Examinations. Indian students coming from abroad for medical studies have to first clear the FMGE exam to register in India.

Three chances are given to pass this exam. After clearing the FMGE exam, students can complete their 12 months internship in India or the remaining period of their internship here. The NMC has said that due to the Corona pandemic and the situation in Ukraine, many medical students have not been able to complete their internship. Considering the hardships and stress of these students, their application to allow them to complete their remaining internship in India is justified. The commission will soon issue instructions to the State Medical Councils in this regard.

Significantly, only those Indian students are eligible to take the FMGE exam, who have studied from a foreign medical institution listed in the list of medical schools issued by the World Health Organization. The names of 34 medical institutions of Ukraine are included in this list.
