Mumbai/Delhi: Gangster Suresh Pujari has been deported from Philippines to India. A senior police officer has given this information to news agency PTI.

Gangster Suresh Pujari, wanted in several cases of extortion in Maharashtra’s Mumbai and Karnataka, has been sent to India. According to the report, Suresh was also wanted in extortion cases in Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, Ulhasnagar and Dombivli near Mumbai. He was arrested late on 14 December after being deported from the Philippines.

Intelligence officials and officials of the Central Bureau of Investigation took him into custody after he landed at the New Delhi airport. Officials have said that he will be handed over to the Mumbai Police after interrogation by central agencies. A team of Mumbai Crime Branch is already in Delhi to take him into custody. Mumbai and Thane police had issued red notices against him in 2017 and 2018 for several cases of extortion. In Thane alone, there are 23 cases of recovery registered against Suresh. Officials have said that Pujari was on the run for more than 15 years and was caught in the Philippines in October. Suresh is a close relative of gangster Ravi Pujari but separated from him in 2007. After that he fled abroad. The officer said that initially he worked with underworld don Chhota Rajan and Ravi Pujari and later formed his own gang. Even before this, many gangsters have been brought to India, in which names like Abu Salem, Chhota Rajan are prominent.
