Delhi : ‘All the accounts of the country’s main opposition party (Congress) have been frozen, Democracy has completely ended in India: Ajay Maken
We appeal to the judiciary to save the multi-party system in this country and secure India's democracy : Kharge

New Delhi: The Congress party on Friday alleged that the Income Tax Department has frozen its bank accounts. Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken said in a press conference, ‘All the accounts of the country’s main opposition party have been seized. Democracy has completely ended in India. Upon further investigation we came to know that the bank accounts of Youth Congress have been frozen.

Meanwhile, Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken informed by tweeting that on our petition, the Income Tax Department and the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) have said that we have to ensure that Rs 115 crore is kept in the banks. This is a lien recorded in 115 crore bank accounts. We can also spend more than that amount. This means that Rs 115 crore has been frozen. This Rs 115 crore is much more than our current account.
Earlier, Ajay Maken had said that ‘Income Tax has sought recovery of ₹ 210 crore from Youth Congress and Congress Party. The crowdfunding money in our accounts has been frozen. When opposition accounts are frozen just 2 weeks before the election announcement, it is equivalent to freezing democracy. Maken said in the press conference, “At present we do not have money to spend, to pay the electricity bill, to pay salaries to our employees. Everything will be affected, not just the Nyay Yatra but all political activities will be affected.” He said the party was informed on Thursday that banks are not accepting checks issued by the party. The money we recently deposited through online funding That account has also been sealed. There were about Rs 25 crores in that account. Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken attacked BJP and said that after the Supreme Court declared electoral bonds unconstitutional, BJP’s accounts should be sealed. Income Tax has put a lock on the money which the workers had collected through donations and membership campaigns.
After Congress’s accounts were seized, party president Mallikarjun Kharge strongly attacked BJP. Posting on the social media platform The unconstitutional money they have collected will be used in the elections, but the money we have collected through crowd funding will be sealed. That is why we have said that there will be no elections in future! We appeal to the judiciary to save the multi-party system in this country and secure India’s democracy. We will take to the streets and fight strongly against this injustice and dictatorship. ,
