Delhi : Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan appears before ED in Panama Papers leak case
New Delhi :Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on Monday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a case related to the 2016 “Panama Papers” leak episode. Official sources gave this information on Monday.
The 48-year-old daughter-in-law of actor Amitabh Bachchan is being questioned by the ED under the provisions of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The case pertains to a 2016 investigation by the Washington-based International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) into the records of Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca known as the ‘Panama Papers’.
In this, the names of many world leaders and celebrities were revealed who had allegedly deposited money abroad in companies outside the country. Some of these are said to have valid foreign accounts. Cases of tax evasion were brought to the fore in this disclosure.
