Bageshwar: David Hopkins, a foreign national from England, was cremated by his daughter, following Hindu rituals

Bageshwar : (Himanshu Gariya) David Hopkins, a foreign national from England, was cremated by his daughter, following Hindu rituals. Villagers attended the funeral. Foreign nationals are increasingly drawn to Indian culture. Their attraction to Indian culture and religions is also being seen. Similarly, the last rites of an English national who came to India years ago were performed by his daughter, lighting the pyre.
David Hopkins, an 85-year-old renowned Gandhian thinker and social worker associated with the Lakshmi Ashram in Kausani, passed away in Bageshwar. He was given a tearful farewell. Originally from England, David came to India in 1973 and since then, he has made the Lakshmi Ashram in Kausani his workplace. While living here, he performed significant work for rural development, women’s education, and self-reliance. David was also actively involved in the conservation of Uttarakhand’s culture, mountains, forests, and environment. After his death at the Lakshmi Ashram last Monday, his body was brought to the Bageshwar Sangam. His daughter Deepika Hopkins performed the last rites as per Hindu rituals at the confluence of Saryu-Gomti rivers by lighting the pyre.
