Arunachal Pradesh : China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) on Sunday informed the Indian Army that it has “found a juvenile” in its territory across Arunachal Pradesh and they will hand him over soon. A few days ago, MP Tapir Gao  claimed that a teenager was kidnapped by PLA soldiers. Defense sources, however, said that the PLA has not confirmed the identity of Teenager and it is believed to be Miram Taron, who was allegedly taken by Chinese troops from Upper Siang district on January 18.

After the incident came to light, the Indian Army had sought help from the PLA to trace the teenager. Sources said the PLA informed the Indian Army that it had found a juvenile and that due process was being followed to hand him over to the Indian side. Arunachal Pradesh MP Tapir Gao also told that he has received confirmation from the Indian Army that the juvenile is in PLA custody and will be handed over soon. Gao claimed on January 19 that the PLA had kidnapped Taron from Lungta Jor in Siungla area (Bishing village) of Upper Siang district. Taron’s friend Johnny Yewing informs the authorities about the kidnapping by the PLA. Both are local hunters from Jido Village. The incident took place near the place from where the Tsangpo River enters Arunachal Pradesh in India. Tsangpo is called Siang in Arunachal Pradesh and Brahmaputra in Assam.

On 20 January, China’s foreign ministry said it was not aware of the incident, but said the PLA controls borders and cracks down on “illegal entry and exit activities”. In September 2020, the PLA kidnapped five youths from Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh. The youths were released by the PLA after about a week.
