AIIMS Nursing staff on indefinite strike for suspension of nurse union president
New Delhi :All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Delhi’s Nurses Union President Harish Kajla has been suspended by the hospital administration. Opposing the suspension, the nurses union started an indefinite strike on Tuesday. Acting on the case of interruption of OT patient’s service on April 22, the hospital administration on Monday night suspended Nursing Officer Harish Kumar Kajla with immediate effect.
There are demands to revoke Kajla’s suspension and stop all retaliation against union members. In a letter to AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria, the nurses union said, “In response to your unilateral decision to suspend the President of AIIMS Nurses Union Harish Kajla without assigning any just cause, the union has called an emergency executive meeting and demanded immediate action in the morning.” We have decided to go on indefinite strike from 26/4/2022 at 8 pm. We demand that the suspension of Harish Kumar Kajla be revoked. Also, no action should be taken against union officials and union members of the main OT. In a statement, the union said, we were neither called nor contacted to express our views and opinions on the entire issue. Due to which we were forced to go on indefinite strike.
Regarding the matter, AIIMS RDA said that the suspension of Kajla is an action taken for her misbehavior and using abusive language against a resident doctor. Whoever is diverting this matter for political gains, keep in mind that RDA, AIIMS has always fought for the self-respect of its staff.
