21-year-old newlywed Nidhi Dhanuk was shot dead by her own father

Bhind : A shocking case of honor killing has come to light in Khiriya Thapak village, under the Mehangaon police station area of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh. 21-year-old newlywed Nidhi Dhanuk was shot dead by her own father, Munnesh Dhanuk. This incident took place on January 14, 2026.
Nidhi had been married for only 17 days. After her marriage, she ran away from her in-laws’ house and went to live with a relative (her uncle) in the same village, which revealed her love affair. This made her father, Munnesh, fear social disgrace and damage to his family’s honor. Disturbed by the gossip and talk in the village and among relatives, he called his daughter back home. When Nidhi did not relent even after being reasoned with, her father took her to a field and shot her with a country-made pistol. After the murder, he left the body in a mustard field and returned home, later surrendering himself at the police station.
He said that he was facing taunts from both his family and his in-laws because of his daughter. He took this step to avoid social disgrace. He cried all night in the lockup but showed no remorse for the murder. Nidhi’s mother, Pooja, filed a complaint against her husband. The police arrested Munnesh and registered a case against him under various sections, including murder (Section 302). The body has been sent for post-mortem, and efforts are underway to recover the weapon. This case once again raises serious questions about love marriages, the freedom of girls, and the violence perpetrated in the name of false honor in society.
