Odisha: There is a demand to ban ISKCON in India. This time, displeasure has come to the fore from a program held in America. Apart from this, Govardhan Peeth has also expressed displeasure. Regarding organizing the Rath Yatra in Houston, America, the spokesperson of Govardhan Peeth said that ISKCON should be banned in India. ISKCON had organized a Rath Yatra in Houston city on 9 November. Now ISKCON is being criticized for this Rath Yatra. In fact, ISKCON had already assured the Odisha government and Puri’s Gajapati Maharaj that the Rath Yatra would not be organized other than the scheduled time. But it was organized. It has been accused of working against religion. Rath Yatra was taken out in Houston, America in which Lord Jagannath’s Nadi Ghosh was seated and the idols of Lord Jagannath, Balbhadra and Subhadra were not placed in it. This was done during ISKCON’s Festival of English. After this, the Odisha government and devotees have also criticized this program. Puri’s Govardhan Peeth’s spokesperson Matra Prasad Mishra said that this program was against religion. He said that ISKCON should be formed in India… Mishra said that in Houston, ISKCON had given a written assurance that they would not organize Rath Yatra there. They have conspired against our religion. Odisha’s Law Minister Prithviraj Harishchandra has said that only the Sri Jagannath Temple administration will take a decision in this matter. However, whatever decision the temple takes, the state government will support it. In the same statement, ISKCON in Houston has put up a statement on its website that earlier, the temple had thought of conducting a Rath Yatra with the idols. However, when the local people expressed their concern, the plan was changed. The statement said that the devotees coming to the festival want to have darshan of Lord Jagannath. At the same time, it is important to respect the tradition as well. He told that a meeting will be held between ISKCON and Puri officials in India next month and work will be done according to whatever consensus is reached. A way should be found keeping in mind both the traditional calendar and the wishes of the devotees.
